Leeds-based medical technology group Surgical Innovations has signed a distribution deal that will see its products marketed to more than 6000 hospitals in the US.
The agreement between Surgical Innovations and wholesale distributor MGM Med will bring the Yorkshire company’s laparoscopic equipment to the American market via a newly-formed subsidiary called Surgical Innovations US.
The five-year deal includes a minimum sales value of $20m (£9.5m) to the UK group over the course of the agreements.
Surgical Innovations said the agreement had already borne fruit with the appointment of its first channel partner, Tri-anim Health Services, which will begin selling its single-use laparoscopic scissors in the south east of the US from next month.
According to the company, the total US market for this product alone is worth more than $125m.
Surgical Innovations finance director Graham Bowland said the deal with MGM would give the company new routes to market in the US and added: ‘The use of the Surgical Innovations trademark will increase our brand recognition.’
