Silicon Graphics Inc. (SGI) and SuSE Linux are working together to deliver a 64-processor system running an enterprise-grade Linux operating system.
SGI will bundle SuSE Linux’ Enterprise Server 8 on SGI’s Itanium 2-based Altix 3000 servers and superclusters. SuSE Linux will provide third-level customer support to SGI customers. The system is expected to be available in October.
The companies also said that they will also work together to scale Linux to a 128-processor system, which they anticipate will be available next year.
