Swedish stable swells

Metrology-to-polymers group Hexagon of Sweden has acquired CogniTens, an Israel-based 3D non-contact measurement technologies specialist.

Hexagon will integrate CogniTens into its growing stable of metrology brands, such as Romer, CimCore, TESA and Leitz.

‘The acquisition of CogniTens is an opportunity for Hexagon to acquire new technology in the high speed, non contact, shop floor measurement and scanning segment of the metrology market,’ said Ola Rollén, the CEO and president of Hexagon.

‘It will enable Hexagon to position itself in all segments of the rapidly growing non contact sheet metal market by combining CogniTens' 3D measurement products with the laser tracker technologies from Leica Geosystems and the articulated arms technologies from Romer.’

CogniTens, a global company with offices in Ramat Hasharon, Israel, Frankfurt, Detroit, Sao Paulo, Shanghai and Tokyo, has a customer base that includes General Motors, Ford, BMW, as well as aerospace and defence companies.

Its Optigo and Opticell solutions are said to be immune to common production line conditions such as vibration, ambient light, and temperature changes. Furthermore, CogniTens’s says that its solutions have overall benefits ranging from improvements to quality and lower engineering and productions costs, to faster vehicle ramp up and launch times.
