Thales

has been awarded a 12-year, $400m contract by Toulouse-based aircraft manufacturer

ATR

to provide the avionics suite for its new ATR 42-600 and ATR 72-600 aircraft.

As part of the contract, Thales will supply the new glass flight deck, consisting of five LCD displays, the flight management system, communication and navigation systems including global navigation satellite system/wide area augmentation system (GNSS/WAAS) capability, as well as a new autopilot.

According to Thales, the new ATR cockpit will offer pilots a much-simplified working environment because it will be based on an integrated modular avionics concept.

Thales is the tier one systems integrator for the contract, and will also integrate systems provided by other suppliers.
