Thales UK has signed a contract to provide Cat III 420 Instrument Landing Systems (ILS) and Distance Measuring Equipment (DME) for Manchester Airport.
The contract follows the signing of a framework agreement with the Manchester Airports Group (MAG) for the supply of specialist aviation-related services and products to all airports within the MAG, which includes Manchester, East Midlands, Bournemouth and Humberside airports.
Steve Hill, vice-president and managing director of Thales UK’s air systems business, said: ‘This contract reinforces our position in the regional airports and UK civil air traffic management (ATM) market, enabling us to build on the good working relationships developed in the past with Manchester Airport.
‘This contract will ensure that Manchester Airport can continue to offer all-weather approach services to the highest UK Safety Regulation Group CAP 670 and ICAO standards. Already widely used internationally, Thales’ ILS 420 product is experiencing rapid acceptance by both civil and military airports in the UK.’
The latest deal will be the fourth Cat III ILS system brought in from Thales for the UK market in the last year and brings the company’s order to more than 30 systems for the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and regional UK airports.
