The Chancellor is reported to be pushing for a commitment to gas-fired power stations while reducing subsidies for on-shore wind energy. Looking forward to the 2050s, which form of energy will be dominant in the UK?
You answered:
Gas will provide most of the UK’s energy until mid-century 13%
Nuclear will dominate energy production by mid-century 24.1%
Non-nuclear renewables will provide most energy by mid-century 4.6%
No single form of energy will dominate 38.9%
No single form will dominate, but generation will be largely carbon-free 19.1%

The Great is the energy requirement in 2050 and we need to push our selfs to Gas for 40% Non convensional energy 7% and Nuclear 20% and remaining has to be Carbon Free.
Maybe I am cynical but the last time I looked Gas was a fossil fuel!
The so called renewables do not stack up. Even a wind turbine requires foundations and energy to build it, not to mention the requirement for new cables infrastructure – to all the beauty spots that are now covered in wind turbines.
The only realistic long term generation is Nuclear, which in most cases is already tied into the distribution grid.
If we are very lucky we will crack the Nuclear fusion problem and eliminate the Nuclear waste problem at the same time.
If not then do not despair, the phenomenal advances in nuclear chemistry now mean that the amount of waste produced is extremely small compared to waste generation in the 60’s and 70’s.
