We had a relatively modest response to our poll last week, with 175 responses; but the conclusion was unmistakeble. A clear majority of respondents, 54 per cent, thought that cyber-crime was a priority for their organisation, with fewer than half of these, at 26 per cent, saying there was no strategy to counter the threat. Having lost 3 years data due to a mistake on my part, I am very aware how vulnerable my data was.
I now keep all my clients data on a stand alone computer and do all my e-mails on a seperate lap top. The stand alone unit is not connected to the internet and is backed up every week on to another separate stand alone unit. This may be a time consuming operation but at least I can sleep at nightknowing I have all data covered with a belt and braces system. The work involved in recovering 3 years data was even more time consuming so I am sure that it can’t happen again.
