Thompson reveals friction-welding machine orders

Midlands-based Thompson has announced a raft of new orders worth more than £10m that will see the company build nine friction-welding machines for customers in Asia, Europe and the Americas.

Thompson, which has acquired an additional temporary manufacturing facility to cope with its strong order book, will supply six machines to factories in Mexico and the US, where they will be used to produce piston rods.

In addition, contracts have been won from a Chinese truck axle manufacturer and two Swedish companies who will use the Thompson machines for making exploration drill pipes and electrical connectors.
