Abingdon-based Toumaz Technology, a provider of ultra-low power wireless infrastructure for body monitoring solutions, has reached the finals of the Elektra 07 awards.
Toumaz was shortlisted alongside five other entrants in the ‘Semiconductor Product of the Year’ category of the Elektra product technology and business awards. The winners of the annual awards, which are organised by Electronics Weekly and Reed Electronics Group, will be announced on 12 December.
Now in its fifth year, the awards recognise the achievements of individuals and firms across the European electronics industry. The awards cover 14 categories and are designed to promote best practice in key areas including customer care, sales growth, innovation and employee motivation.
Toumaz’s nominated product, the Sensium sensor interface and transceiver platform, enables intelligent, ultra-low power wireless monitoring of multiple vital signs in real-time, via standard handheld devices such as mobile phones. The indicators measured include ECG, heart rate, body temperature, respiration and physical activity, which is determined via a three-axis accelerometer.
According to Toumaz, the unique combination of ultra-low power wireless and signal processing in one small System-on-Chip (SOC) allows the economies of scale of the semiconductor industry to be harnessed. This provides highly functional, robust, low cost, disposable and non-intrusive monitors for a wide range of healthcare and lifestyle management applications.
