ABB has won a contract from the Beijing Electric Power Corporation for power transformers to strengthen electricity grids in the city for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
The transformers will be manufactured locally in China at the ABB plant is Chongqing, the largest transformer manufacturing facility in the word.
The order is part of the Beijing Electric Power Corporation’s $2.7bn investment in the city’s power infrastructure which includes 24 transformers rated at 110 kilovolts (kV). The new units will be installed and operational by July 2007.
According to ABB, transformers are a key component of power grids, converting the voltage of AC power for transmission and distribution purposes.
