Turbine order

Vestas Italia has received an order for 27 units of its 850kW V52 wind turbine which will be deployed at the Castel di Lucio wind farm in Sicily.

Vestas Italia has received an order for 27 units of its 850kW V52 wind turbine which will be deployed at the Castel di Lucio wind farm located near Messina in Sicily.

The contract includes the supply, installation, and commissioning of the turbines, as well as a five-year service and availability agreement.

The order was placed by Minerva, a company owned by Alerion Energie Rinnovabili, a subsidiary of Alerion Industries. Alerion is an investment company listed on the Milan Stock Exchange whose core business is the production of electricity from renewable energy sources.

The Castel di Lucio project is the third deal which the Alerion Group has forged with Vestas. In June 2007, the group signed a contract with Vestas for turbines for the Callari wind power plant in Sicily, followed by another for the Lacedonia wind farm in the Campania region.

'With this order, Vestas will have a total installed capacity of 102.5MW with Alerion,' said Rainer Karan, General Manager of Vestas Italia.

With an estimated annual production of approximately 45,000 MWh, the Castel di Lucio wind power plant will save the environment from more than 20,000 tons of CO2 and will be able to meet the electricity needs of more than 18,000 Italian households.

Delivery of the turbines is scheduled to start in October 2008, and the project will be completed by March 2009.
