Unitary contract for General Dynamics

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems has been awarded a $7.5m contract by Lockheed Martin for the production of warheads for the US Army’s Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) – Unitary.

According to General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems, the GMLRS is an all-weather precision-guided rocket with increased accuracy that reduces the number of rockets required to eliminate a target.

The system is equipped with a 90.7kg class fragmenting unitary warhead designed and developed by General Dynamics and has a range of more than 60km.

The GMLRS Unitary warhead’s combination of insensitive munitions and high near-field lethality reportedly fulfil the army’s need for an affordable, long-range precision artillery munition.

Engineering and program management will be performed in Niceville, Florida.
