URENCO ChemPlants awards Jacobs newtails plant contract

California-based Jacobs Engineering has been awarded a contract by URENCO ChemPlants for project management, design engineering, procurement, construction management and inactive commissioning associated with a newtails management facility at URENCO’s Capenhurst site in northwest England.

As part of the nuclear fuel cycle, tails is a by-product of the uranium enrichment process performed at URENCO’s facilities and the plant is expected to deconvert this material into a passive form, to be stored on the Capenhurst site.

The contract, the value of which was not disclosed, commences immediately.

Completion of construction and pre-commissioning is scheduled for early 2015, prior to URENCO’s commissioning and operation of the facility.
