Vestas awarded Portuguese contract

Vestas has received an order for 34 units of its V90 3.0MW wind turbine for the Toutiço project, located in the district of Coimbra in the central part of Portugal.

The order has been placed by Enersis SGPS, one of Europe's largest independent renewable energy companies.

Enersis is owned by Babcock & Brown, a global investment and advisory firm with a number of investments in areas including real estate, renewable energy and infrastructure.

The contract consists of supply, installation, commissioning of the wind turbines, a VestasOnline Business SCADA solution, as well as a five-year service agreement.

By the end of December 2007, Vestas had installed a total of 123 units of the V90 3.0MW wind turbine in Portugal and had a cumulative installed wind capacity in the country of 498MW.

The wind power plant is estimated to produce 264GWh per year which will cut around164,000 tons of CO2 emissions. The wind power plant will cover the yearly electricity consumption of approx 102,000 Portuguese households.

Delivery of the units is expected to start during the autumn of 2008 and will be completed during the autumn of 2009.
