Vienna places 357 million Euro tram order

Siemens Transportation and consortium partner, Elin have been awarded 357 million Euros to supply 150 ultra-low-floor trams to the Viennese transit operator Wiener Linien.

Siemens Transportation Systems (TS) and consortium partner, Elin have been awarded 357 million Euros to supply 150 ultra-low-floor (ULF) trams to the Viennese transit operator Wiener Linien.

The order also includes options for a further 150 ULF trams

The order is worth approximately 357 million Euros, with Siemens’ share amounting to around 255 million Euros.

The first 25 of the new ULF trams ordered are to be delivered in 2006, with the rest following by 2012. All the trams will be built at the TS production plant in Vienna.

Siemens was awarded the first order for 150 ULFs in 1997. Since their commissioning, these ultra-low-floor trams have travelled more than an aggregate 13 million kilometres.
