Wind at sea

German utility EWE and the Enova Group have joined forces to develop an offshore wind park called Riffgat off Germany’s North Sea coast.

German utility EWE and the Enova Group are to develop an offshore wind park called Riffgat, which will be located off Germany’s North Sea coast.

To this end, the two companies have founded a new company called Offshore Windpark Riffgat, which will be responsible for building and operating the wind park.

In total, up to 44 multi-megawatt wind turbines are expected to be constructed 15km to the north west of the East Frisian island of Borkum.

The turbines will be built across an area of 6km2 and will generate enough electricity for 112,000 households by the end of 2012.

According to the two companies, the project will require an investment of around €480m (£387m).
