The national winner, Jonathan Darby of Newcastle-under-Lyme, who studied at Staffordshire University, won first prize for his work on the design and development of a high efficiency recirculating burner. He was awarded £1000 in cash as well as a two-week expenses-paid trip to the USA and a 12-week placement on the Rover Group graduate training scheme.
