How the UK’s software industry can help bridge this country’s productivity gap was the focus of a seminar hosted by Peter Mandelson, Secretary of State for Trade and Industry. Software – once referred to as `the oil of the 21st Century’ – is rapidly becoming seen as the key tool that will drive industry in the future.
Mandelson commented: `Improving the productivity of the British economy is a key national challenge. A world class software sector will be crucial if we are to meet this challenge and take advantage of the new opportunities the digital economy presents.
`The UK already has some of the best and most creating companies working in this sector anywhere in the world,’ he continued. `But we need more of these companies, and we need them to grow.’
