CEL provides specialised management, engineering and environmental services to address technically complex applications in the process and manufacturing industries. CEL directly employs around 170 staff with additional agency support and operates from five offices in the UK, as well as offices in Ireland and China.
Key markets include the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, healthcare, chemical and food processing industries and the company has a strong future order book with contracts from clients including AstraZeneca, Novartis, Diageo and Akzo Nobel.
WSP said the acquisition of CEL, with its broad range of industrial clients, would continue the group’s strategy of diversification by opening new markets and providing the ability to cross-sell all its services to a broad range of multi-national businesses. It intends to promote CEL’s services in the Scandinavian and European markets in which WSP operates.
Chris Cole, WSP’s CEO, said: ‘We are very pleased to have today completed this transaction which brings to the group a new and important capability in the field of industrial process engineering and design.
‘We believe our existing international footprint of offices will provide a constant flow of opportunities to develop the businesses and I am delighted to have secured the services of the management team who share in the vision and values of WSP Group.’
