Zoran and Oak file for damages

Zoran Corporation and its subsidiary Oak Technology are seeking damages from Taiwan’s MediaTek Inc and Mintek Digital for alleged infringement of three US patents.

Zoran Corporation and its subsidiary Oak Technology, Inc have filed a patent infringement complaint in the United States District Court in Los Angeles, California against Taiwan’s MediaTek, Inc and Mintek, Inc.

The lawsuit seeks financial damages and an injunction to stop the importation and sale of MediaTek and Mintek products that allegedly infringe three patents owned by Zoran and Oak.

The complaint alleges that MediaTek and Mintek products infringe two US patents (6,584,527 and 6,546,440) that relate to optical drive controller design.

The complaint further alleges that MediaTek products also infringe a third US patent (6,466,736) which relates to integrated DVD/CD controller and processor design.

The lawsuit follows the filing last week by Zoran and Oak of a patent infringement complaint with the United States International Trade Commission (ITC) against MediaTek, Mintek and nine other parties.

That action requests that the ITC issue exclusion and cease and desist orders prohibiting the importation into the United States of certain MediaTek controller chips and chipsets and certain products sold by the nine other parties that contain certain MediaTek chips and chipsets.
