I write with regard to your article 'King of the Road' about the work of Transport Research Laboratory (TRL), with particular reference to the Soundprint acoustic monitoring system to detect fractures in high-tensile steel wires.
Soundprint was, in fact, developed in Canada by Pure Technologies and TRL was asked by the Highways Agency to evaluate it for potential long-term use on structures such as bridges.
Currently, TRL operates the system in partnership with Pure Technologies on a major structure in this country.
