ABB
has won a $79 million order from
Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority(ADWEA) for the
400-kilovolt (kV) substation.
Soaring demand for electricity and volatile peak load swings in the UAE have led to an interconnection project to link five isolated utilities into a national power grid, called the Emirates National Grid (ENG).
This 400-kV substation – the first of its size awarded to ABB in the UAE - will connect the Fujairah Water and Power Plant to the
ABB’s scope of supply includes two 500-megavolt ampere (MVA) transformers; two 20-megavolt ampere reactive (MVAR) reactors, and two 50-MVAr reactors; 20 400-kilovolt (KV) GIS (gas insulated switchgear) bays; and 21 132 KV GIS bays.
ABB will also supply substation control and monitoring systems, protection, telecommunications, LDC integration and complete civil works.
