Airbus to supply Wizz

Wizz Air, the Hungary-based budget airline, has signed a contract with Airbus for 50 A320s and options to purchase a further 25. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.

The latest order takes the total number of A320 aircraft ordered by Wizz Air to 82. The fleet expansion is said to allow Wizz Air to increase the frequency of existing services as well as introduce new routes in Central and Eastern Europe.

‘The A320 continues to deliver low operating costs, high operational reliability and customer satisfaction whilst enabling us to remain environmentally conscious. The new aircraft order will make Wizz Air the largest fleet operator in the region,’ said József Váradi, CEO of Wizz Air. ??

The aircraft will be configured with 180 seats in a single class layout, and includes fuel-saving features such as wingtip fences and a lighter cabin.

The 50 aeroplanes are scheduled for delivery between 2011 and 2014, and the 25 options are expected to be delivered from 2014 to 2016.

Delivery of the 50 planes will take place from 2011-2014, Wizz Air said in a statement. The options for the additional 25 A320s would be for delivery between 2014-2016.
