Alcoa shapes new future

Alcoa has agreed to sell its soft-alloy extrusion plants in Warren, Ohio and Plant City, Florida to Golden Aluminium. Terms of the agreement were undisclosed.

The plants, which employ a total of 330 people, shape aluminium into products for the construction and commercial transportation markets.

The transaction is expected to be completed by the end of September.

Alcoa has also announced the closure of its Tifton, Georgia soft-alloy extrusion plant by the end of October 2007. The 200 employees affected by this closure will be offered severance and work assistance programmes.
