Blue Air buys Boeings

Boeing has received an order worth £150m at list prices for two 737-800s and the purchase rights for two more from Romanian low-cost airline Blue Air Transport Aerian.

‘We have doubled our passenger traffic every year since starting our operations,’ said Gheorghe Racaru, general manager of Blue Air. ‘Looking toward the future, the next-generation 737-800 is the most capable airplane on the market with a proven and impressive track record. It is the right airplane for our forecasted growth in this region.’

Blue Air, Romania’s first low-cost airline, started operations in December 2004 and operates from Bucharest’s Banaeasa International airport, flying to European destinations. The new orders will build on their all-Boeing fleet of five 737 Classics.
