Chinese power contract

ABB recently announced that it has won a $33 million contract with Tianjin Power Company to supply power equipment for China’s third-largest city.

According to ABB, the rapid growth of the Tianjin New Coastal District, southeast of Beijing, has increased demand for dependable supplies of electricity.

ABB will provide 110 kilovolt (kV) gas-insulated switchgear, 35 kV and 10 kV gas-insulated and air-insulated switchgear, as well as 220 kV power transformers.

The equipment will be made at ABB’s factories in China. Switchgear and transformers are used to protect and convert electricity from one voltage to another to allow power distribution.

The New Coastal District of Tianjin comprises a city of 10 million people and the largest seaport and commercial center in northern China. Tianjin’s development and integration with nearby provinces is a national priority under the government’s latest five-year plan.
