Boron detection

has recently secured a £1.4m contract to design, supply, install and commission a new boron in water monitoring system for the fuel storage pond at

Sizewell B PWR power station.

The system will provide the main control room with a real-time total boron concentration reading in ppm. Work is expected to be complete by the end of 2009.

BNS has already begun a detailed survey of the existing plant prior to beginning the detailed design of pipework modifications.

Guy Worsnop, BNS’s British Energy Generation account manager, said: 'We have historic links with Sizewell B and winning this contract appears to demonstrate that our approach of offering robust technical solutions coupled with sound commercial proposals is appreciated by our customers.

‘Our principal subcontractor on this project is Areva Germany, as it has significant expertise in designing and providing detectors of this kind.

‘Our core team of engineers will be working closely with both Areva and British Energy to ensure the entire system fulfils the technical specification and is delivered on time.’
