Driving ambition

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) has been appointed as official technical advisor for the world’s first global zero emission Grand Prix, the TTXGP.

Taking place on 12 June around a circuit on the Isle of Man, the race will display a number of emerging technologies and engineering designs.

Mary Donovan, head of communications at the IET, said: ‘Young people need to be inspired about engineering and see it as a creative profession which has the possibility to change the world in which we live.

‘Through initiatives such as this, the IET hopes to rekindle excitement in the classroom and ignite the spark that will re-engage students in science, engineering and technology subjects.

'From entrepreneurial activities, such as the TTXGP, the technologies of the future will be determined.’

Fellow of the IET and TTXGP technical director, Simon Maddison, said: ‘TTXGP is a fantastic initiative to drive forward the development of new technologies, in order to meet the very real challenges the world faces in the 21st century.
