Junior nuclear talent

Nexia Solutions and educational charity The Smallpeice Trust are to show schoolchildren the opportunities available to the scientists and engineers of tomorrow through a new course.

Nexia Solutions is a technical service provider to the UK nuclear industry and the company that will form the foundation of the National Nuclear Laboratory (NNL).

The course, being held at Manchester University, will give schoolchildren aged 15 and 16 years old with an interest in the nuclear industry an opportunity to tackle a variety of hands-on 'design and make' challenges to learn more about a career in this sector.

The course, which will be attended by over  70 pupils from across the UK, covers a range of issues including radiation, the environment, decommissioning and waste. At the end of the course, the pupils – who will be split into teams – will give a presentation of their 'design and make' project to senior executives of the NNL.
