Work began on 13 February on Power Academy, a multi-million-pound centre to train workers in environmental technologies in Warwickshire.
Regional development agency Advantage West Midlands (AWM) has approved £6.3m towards the centre in Rugby.
The Power Academy is part of the new Warwickshire College Rugby Centre and will focus on developing training in green and carbon-friendly power sources.
The wider development will include more than 600 new homes and employment space, while the £35m college is set to receive students in 2010.
The academy will be closely linked to Converteam and Alstom Power and will be pivotal in training technicians for the new generation of power stations, with a focus on turbines and carbon-friendly power generation.
Work on the 150,000ft2 college has already created hundreds of jobs for construction workers on site and is said to be providing a major economic boost to the area.
