Plans to modernise Reading Station have taken a step forward with Corus Railway Infrastructure Services appointed by Network Rail to design new station facilities.

) has been awarded the design contract for a major redevelopment project at Reading Station by

.

This latest contract for CRIS follows recent contract awards for track and infrastructure design associated with the Reading Station Area Redevelopment programme.

Under this design contract, CRIS will provide the design for new station facilities, including a new transfer deck, additional platforms and canopies, new station entrances and station wide mechanical and electrical services.

Reading Station currently acts as a bottleneck on the Western Region Network for passenger and freight traffic. It has been identified as inflicting the greatest constraint on capacity and performance of the Great Western Main Line and redevelopment of the station is central to Network Rail's five-year £500m Infrastructure Investment programme.

Remodelling proposals are expected to address congestion issues and route capacity enhancements and performance improvements for predicted future growth until 2045.

Corus will be supported on the Reading Station works by WSP, who will act as consultant structural engineers, and Grimshaw Architects.
