for £1.25m.

The ELSEF project is expected to process 90,000 tonnes of solid recovered fuel and generate up to 13MW of electricity using advanced gasification technology. Biossence intends to expand this to include a network of non-incineration, renewable-energy facilities throughout the country.

The company is currently developing a number of sites in London, the south east and other areas in the UK as part of plans to provide 1.5m Tonnes Per Annum of waste treatment and energy recovery capacity in the next five years.

Dr Ralf Trottnow, director of Biossence, said: ‘Biossence is delighted to acquire ELSEF and is committed to bringing it quickly to financial close. We see this as an important source of renewable energy in East London and an integral part of our strategy to build, own and operate renewable-energy plants in the UK, based on advanced thermal conversion technology.’
