Look for optical component vendor
to formally introduce its new LC96 980nm pump laser module at this week’s OFC/NFOEC (8-10 March,
,
).
The module, which Bookham believe is the world’s most powerful of its kind for telecoms applications, combines a 'kink-free' power output of up to 580mW with high reliability and stable performance.
The availability of high kink-free power outputs allows EDFA designers to replace power-hungry 1480nm pump lasers with 980nm pumps and benefit from improved EDFA noise figure performance.
The LC96 series laser pump module incorporates the latest G08 laser chip from Bookham’s Zürich facility in a hermetically sealed, 14-pin cooled butterfly package, and uses polarization maintaining fibre to enable stable performance over a wide dynamic range.
Full qualification of the device to Telcordia GR-468-CORE is complete, with volume shipments having commenced to key customers in February 2005.
