Airbus order EPGS for A350

Airbus has awarded a contract to Hamilton Sundstrand, a subsidiary of United Technologies, for its electric power generation system (EPGS) for the Airbus A350 XWB.

Hamilton Sundstrand estimated the total revenue from the contract would be approximately $1bn. Its EPGS for Airbus’ newest model comprises four 100kVA, 230 volt variable frequency generators and four generator control units.

The EPGS will be designed in Rockford, Illinois and manufactured at Hamilton Sundstrand plants, such as those in Phoenix, Arizona, Puerto Rico and Singapore.

The A350 XWB, which can accommodate between 270 and 350 passengers in three basic versions, is scheduled to enter service in 2013.
