(B&W PGG) has awarded

a contract worth $4m for its SINOx SCR plate-type catalyst.

B&W PGG will use the catalyst in its selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system to be installed at the John W Turk, Jr Power Plant, a new base load power plant to be built in Hempstead County, Arkansas.

The new plant, owned by American Electric Power’s Southwestern Electric Power Company (SWEPCO), will fire powder river basin (PRB) coal in a 600MW net pulverized coal-fired spiral wound universal pressure boiler. The SCR system will have two reactors with two layers each for initial catalyst loading. The SCR system is designed to operate year round, and has no bypass.

According to Argillon, SCR systems are the most effective for reducing nitrogen oxide emissions.
