Balfour Beatty Infrastructure has been selected by the North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) to work on a £252m design-build road project in the Dallas-Fort Worth region.

The contract for phase four of the State Highway 161 Tollway will be carried out by a joint venture between Balfour Beatty Infrastructure (Balfour Beatty’s US civil engineering contractor) and Fluor.

Work will consist of two new main lanes of approximately 6.5 miles from Interstate Highway 20 to north of Interstate Highway 30, along with direct connector ramps, slip ramps, overpass bridges and underpass bridges.

Commenting on the award, Balfour Beatty chief executive, Ian Tyler, said: ‘This contract further enhances our position as a leading highways and tollway contractor in Texas and builds on our relationship with the NTTA for whom we have completed several successful projects.'

Design work on SH161 is scheduled to begin in September 2009.

Balfour Beatty’s activities in the US now account for 30 per cent of group revenue.
