Billion dollar deal for Rolls Royce

India’s Kingfisher Airlines has ordered 25 Rolls-Royce Trent engines with a total value of $1bn at the Paris Air Show to power a new fleet of Airbus widebody airliners.

The order consists of 20 firm A350 XWB-800 twinjets, which are offered with the Trent XWB, and five A340-500s, for which the Trent 500 is the sole engine.

The Trent XWB is currently the largest engine in the Trent family. Rolls-Royce are planning to make it available ready for 2013, when the A350 XWB is due to enter into service. A single version, designed to deliver a range of thrusts from 34,000 – 43,000N, is capable of powering all variants of the aircraft.

Kingfisher placed an order for an original batch of five ultra-long-haul A340-500s last year. These aircraft will begin entering service in early 2008, while the A340s in today’s announcement will be delivered in 2009 and 2010.
