Carrying Canada

The Canadian Department of National Defence has awarded a $46.3m contract to General Dynamics Land Systems-Canada to supply 33 LAV III Infantry Section Carriers.

As part of the contract, General Dynamics will modify 33 existing LAV III chassis to an infantry section carrier configuration and integrate a Remote Weapon Station onto the converted chassis.

Rheinmetall Canada of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, will supply the Remote Weapon Station that features a gun cradle capable of mounting 5.56mm, 7.62mm and 12.7mm armaments and a cooled thermal sight system.

The infantry carriers are scheduled for delivery from June 2008 to March 2009.
