Petroleos del Norte (Petronor) has awarded an engineering, procurement and construction management contract for a delayed coking complex to Foster Wheeler. Financial details of the contract were undisclosed.

Petronor’s refinery will also employ Foster Wheeler’s SYDEC delayed coking technology, which is a thermal conversion process used to upgrade heavy residue feed and turn it into high-value transport fuels.
‘The relationship between Petronor and Foster Wheeler Iberia began with our involvement in the design and construction of the new refinery in 1969 at Somorrostro,’ said Jesus Cadenas, CEO of Foster Wheeler Iberia. ‘The new delayed coking complex will allow it to reduce its production of low-value fuel oil, by upgrading it into higher-value products such as naptha and diesel.’
