The

(Information and Communication Technologies) Centre today announced that it has formed a spin-off company, Funnelback, to market its enterprise search technology, P@NOPTIC.

Funnelback is an advanced engine used by organisations to search for information contained in their websites, intranets, file-shares and databases. It is used to provide search facilities on websites for government organisations, large corporations and universities.

Dr Geoff Garrett, Chief Executive of CSIRO, said, ‘It is our view that, with the technology in a company structure with good governance and management, we will create maximum impact for our research.’

‘It's also an example of successful commercialisation built on great science - which is what CSIRO's rejuvenation of its ICT research is all about.’

Funnelback will be based in Canberra, Australia.
