Distributing energy

Iberdrola Ingeniería has been awarded a €43.1m contract to construct a transmission line in Spain to distribute the energy generated by nine wind farms.

Spain's Iberdrola Ingeniería has been awarded a €43.1m (£34.3m) contract to construct a transmission line to distribute the energy generated by nine wind farms.

The new 120km-long double-circuit transmission line, which is designed to operate at 400kV, but will initially operate at 220kV, will connect a new substation of Puebla de Guzmán in Huelva with that of Guillena in Sevilla.

It will serve the wind farms at Los Lirios, La Retuerta, El Almendro, La Tallisca, Valdefuentes, Las Cabezas, El Centenar, El Saucito and Majal Alto, and later act as the main hub for transporting electrical energy to Andalucia.

The wind farms were developed by the Andevalo Community of Electrical System Assets, part-owned by Gamesa and Age Generation Eolica.

Work on the transmission line will be carried out during the second half of this year and throughout next year.

It should go into operation in October 2009.
