Electric car support scheme launched in north-east England

The first customer support scheme for drivers of electric vehicles has been launched in north-east England.

The One North East regional development agency has appointed Elektromotive to create the ’Charge Your Car’ scheme – the new name for the north-east region’s Plugged-In Places project – which will help drivers find and use charge points, access customer support and collect information on their vehicle’s charging history.

Drivers of electric vehicles can register with the website (www.chargeyourcar.org.uk) to receive a welcome pack that will include their personal electronic tag for opening and using charge posts around the region and give them access to free parking while charging.

The website will also provide information on charging point locations, journey planning and links to the Switch Electric Vehicle vehicle trial.

The scheme is being delivered by Elektromotive, which was previously appointed to supply the latest wave of 200 charging points that are being installed in the north-east as part of the 1,300 charging points being installed over the next three years.

Calvey Taylor-Haw, Elektromotive managing director, said that the company was not only creating an electric vehicle recharging infrastructure but an integrated back office management suit to support it.

This service will initially support the region’s unique Switch Electric Vehicle trial, which will begin imminently. This involves 35 vehicles that have been developed by north-east companies including Nissan, AVID Vehicles, Smith Electric Vehicles and Liberty Electric Cars.
