Energy for industrial estate

GE Energy will supply a Frame 9E gas turbine-generator to PT Cikarang Listrindo for the expansion of a power plant at the Cikarang Industrial Estate near Jakarta, Indonesia.

The new machine will join six GE Frame 6B gas turbines already operating at the 354-megawatt, combined-cycle facility, which was the first independent power plant in Indonesia when it began service in 1993.

The plant generates power and distributes it through a private network to five industrial estates around Jakarta, and to the national grid.

Project management will be co-ordinated at GE Energy's Belfort, France facilities, while the Frame 9E will be manufactured at GE's plant in Greenville, South Carolina and shipped to Indonesia in December of 2005.

Commercial operation is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2006. The plant owner's intent is that later, the new machine will be combined with a similar unit, both operating in combined-cycle mode, which will add 350 megawatts of power to the total plant output. Natural gas will be the primary fuel.
