The new project, which will run for three and half years from October 2010, involves academic investigators Dr Peter Slater and Prof Colin Greaves from Birmingham and Dr John Hanna and Prof Mark Smith from Warwick.
The researchers will investigate novel doping strategies to improve the performance of electrolyte and electrode materials for use in solid-oxide fuel-cell systems.
The team at Birmingham will investigate the synthesis and electrical characterisation of the materials, while at Warwick, the dopants will be examined in detail through NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) measurements.
The funding will also support a postdoctoral researcher and a PhD student, along with some equipment to expand the synthesis and testing facilities at Birmingham.
