Expanded Metal Mesh Conducts Itself Well
Formed from a single piece of metal, the characteristics of expanded metal mesh make it a superb conductor of electricity, opening it up for use in a whole range of specialist applications. Any ductile material can be expanded to a range of thicknesses and patterns, thus making it highly cost effective with no joins or welds to interrupt the electrical conductivity flow. Patterns range from traditional diamond to square, hexagonal, parallel strand and decorative and can be finished with a range of specialist coatings - powder coated, painted, galvanised, anodised and coloured to blend in with any environment. Also the process of expanded metal mesh reveals the advantage of reducing waste generated from the process, hence achieving significant cost savings against comparable steel sheets.
“Where this product really comes into its own is in situations where electric current needs to be constantly conducted using a controlled method. For this purpose titanium and nickel expanded mesh are used extensively in Fuel Cells and battery packs,” comments Deanne Malton from EMC. “It is also ideal for protection from electric current, if we look at its benefits to the aircraft industry, applying mesh enables the lightning current to quickly transmit across the wing surface reducing its focus and thus, its potential danger.”
