The so-called Ferrari Virtual Academy is claimed to be the only virtual simulator for PCs that faithfully reproduces the F10, the single-seater that competes in the Formula One World Championship.
The challenge the designers faced was to create a version of the simulator used for training Ferrari’s drivers that everyone can use on their own PC. Starting from an analysis of data from the car, the aerodynamic effects, tyre characteristics and behaviour of the chassis-suspension system and engine were then reproduced, as well as all elements of the transmission.
The simulator’s development team, who spent 12,000 man hours developing the software, were assisted by Ferrari drivers, who tested the simulator to optimise its performance. The simulator faithfully reproduces the cockpit of the F10, including all its controls and functionality.
Every user of the PC software will be able to record their own time online, taking part in an international tournament that will reward the highest-ranking virtual drivers with Ferrari products every week.
At the end of the tournament, five drivers ranked as fastest will win a trip to Maranello, the home of Ferrari, to take part in the Ferrari driver academy course.
The simulator, which can be purchased online from the site www.ferrarivirtualacademy.com costs €14.90 (£12.30) for the first release, which allows drivers to negotiate the Fiorano Circuit, and €9.90 for the following releases with the Mugello and Nürburgring circuits.
