FLIR’s star shines over Middle East

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has placed an order worth $28.6m with FLIR Systems for its Star SAFIRE III stabilised, multi-sensor systems.

According to UAE, the platform will be used for defence missions in the region. The order is also FLIR’s largest international contract award to date.

‘This contract, representing an international expansion of our market opportunity for homeland security applications, strengthens our presence in the region,’ said Earl R Lewis, president and CEO of FLIR.

Work will be carried out at FLIR’s Portland, Oregon production plant, and delivery of the systems will take place from 2008 to 2009.
