Fluor Corporation
has been selected by the
Kentucky Utilities Companyto install new air emissions control equipment at two of the utility's power plants.
Fluor will provide engineering, procurement and construction services for the installation of four new flue gas desulphurisation (FGD) systems at KU's Ghent and E.W. Brown plants in northern and central Kentucky. The contract value to Fluor was more than $500 million.
According to Fluor, the FGD systems will reduce sulphur dioxide emissions at the coal-fired plants and allow KU to provide greater value to their customers in Kentucky.
Work is under way at the Ghent site where three of the systems will be built. One FGD system will be installed at E.W. Brown, and the total program will be complete in 2009.
Kentucky Utilities Company, based in Lexington, provides electricity to more than one and a half million customers in 77 Kentucky counties and five counties in Virginia.
