Ford will start using Microsoft’s Hohm energy-management application on its electric vehicles from next year, beginning with the Focus Electric.
The Hohm software will help owners determine when and how to most efficiently and affordably recharge battery electric (BEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) vehicles. It should also help utility companies manage the added demands of electric vehicles on the electric grid.
Hohm, an internet-based service, is designed to help customers avoid unnecessary expense by providing insight into their energy-usage patterns and suggesting recommendations to increase conservation.
Microsoft’s Hohm is available free to all US residents. Ford is the first automaker to collaborate with Microsoft to deploy the software.
