Fostering petroleum in Qatar

A subsidiary of Qatar Petroleum, Qatar Holding, has awarded Foster Wheeler front-end engineering design contracts for a new petrochemical complex in Qatar. Financial details of the contract were not disclosed.

Foster Wheeler will also procure long-lead items and provide project management and construction management (PMCM) services for the plant, to be based at Mesaieed.

The plant will include olefins (unsaturated paraffin hydrocarbons recovered from petroleum) and aromatics units, which will supply ethylene, propylene and benzene to the downstream polypropylene, ethylbenzene, styrene monomer and polystyrene plants.

The complex is scheduled for completion in 2011.
